Statement: June 24, 2021

June 24 2021
It’s with heavy hearts that we once again lower flags in the Town of St. Paul to commemorate the 751 unmarked graves just recently discovered on the grounds of a former residential school in Saskatchewan.

We stand with all First Nations people in Canada as they grieve this horrendous find, as well as those survivors who still bear the emotional scars from this archaic and damaging chapter in our history. This serves as a grim reminder of the damaging and dark times in Canada’s past.

The National Indian Residential School Crisis Line is available for the former students and those affected. Emotional and crisis referral can be accessed by calling the 24-hour support line at 1-866-925-4419.
